At the end of July, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine registered a draft law on amendments to the Customs Code of Ukraine regarding the promotion of the restoration of Ukraine’s alternative energy infrastructure, No. 11455.<\/p>\n
The draft law proposes exempting wind energy generation installations, classified under code 8502 31 00 00 according to the Ukrainian Classification of Goods for Foreign Economic Activity, from import duties.<\/p>\n
The European Business Association supports this draft law. It will help reduce the cost of wind energy generation installations, making them more accessible and facilitating the faster restoration and expansion of wind energy capacities.<\/p>\n
According to business representatives, wind power plants, considering their specificities and construction technology, are decentralized electricity generation facilities. The distance between wind turbines at a single power plant is usually around 800 meters, making these plants more complex and costly targets for enemy attacks. Damage to a single wind turbine may result in the loss of up to 8 MW of capacity, whereas in the case of thermal power plants, damage to one facility often means the loss of 200 MW of capacity or more.<\/p>\n
Therefore, scaling up wind energy in Ukraine will reduce dependence on traditional energy sources, which are more vulnerable to external attacks, and will help stabilize energy supply in the country.<\/p>\n
Moreover, the construction of wind power plants aligns with the country’s strategy to develop a decentralized energy system based on renewable energy sources and supports Ukraine’s commitments to the European Union regarding green transition and decarbonization goals.<\/p>\n
As such, the business community is appealing to Andrii Herus, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services, Danylo Hetmantsev, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax, and Customs Policy, and Serhii Marchenko, Minister of Finance of Ukraine, to support this draft law as soon as possible!<\/p>\n
