About 40 thousand EU officials work in 5 major EU institutions, and 1000 accredited EU journalists work in Brussels. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">This year, a new 5-year political cycle is beginning in the EU. Key political agenda priorities for the 2024-2029 legislature include strategic autonomy, economic competitiveness, and industry policy, and key issue is ensuring complementarity between industrial and climate policy as the 2050 climate neutrality target remains indisputable. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">FTI Consulting experts explained the EU policy-making processes, its phases, and influencing opportunities. It is worth noting that it takes up to 30 months on average to produce a piece of legislation. Although things are speeding up now, there is a great difference between the EU and Ukraine\u2019s policymaking in this regard. Workshop participants also got insights about the work of the key EU institutions, structures of these institutions, and key players, and were advised on \u2018dos\u2019 and \u2018don\u2019ts\u2019 while communicating with decision-makers. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Speakers also shared more information about the work and purpose of the EU Transparency Register, a database of interest representatives engaging in activities to influence EU policy and decision-making. It includes a public website for registering EU activities, a code of conduct for interaction with EU institutions, and a complaints mechanism to investigate violations of the code. Established in 2011, the Register includes about 12,500 registrants from different countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">We were also able to discuss the key assumptions and recommendations for Ukrainian companies for lobbying in the EU as well as the main differences between the advocacy processes in Ukraine and the EU.
