Due to the failure of the Black Sea grain initiative by the russian federation, there is now an urgent need to increase the capacity of the Paths of Solidarity by approximately 1-1.5 million tons of grain per month.<\/p>\n
However, this can be achieved by exporting grain through the ports of Baltic countries (such as Klaipeda and others), Germany (Rostock, Hamburg), the Netherlands (Rotterdam), Croatia (Rijeka), Italy (Trieste), and Slovenia (Koper). The development of these routes is supported by the European Commission. It is worth noting that during the meeting of the Coordination Platform on the export of Ukrainian agricultural products, representatives of the European Commission confirmed that they are actively considering the issue of increasing transportation through the mentioned routes.<\/p>\n
Currently, these mentioned routes are used very infrequently due to their complex and expensive logistics compared to other closer routes. The cost difference amounts to approximately 30-40 euros per ton.<\/p>\n
Therefore, businesses propose the introduction of “green corridors” for Ukrainian agricultural products to the ports of Baltic countries, Germany, the Netherlands, Croatia, Italy, and Slovenia. These corridors would include two aspects. Firstly, the relocation of sanitary, phytosanitary, and veterinary controls from the border crossing points with Ukraine to the territory of the destination country. It will significantly increase export volumes. Secondly, the implementation of subsidies from the European Commission to compensate for the additional logistical costs of transportation.<\/p>\n
Therefore, the European Business Association is urging the Executive Vice President, Commissioner for Trade of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, to consider the possibility of implementing such “green corridors” as quickly as possible. At the same time, the EBA supports the introduction of similar export incentives for other types of products besides agriculture, particularly in metallurgy. The community is preparing a relevant request with proposals, and it will be made public shortly.<\/p>\n
