The October attacks have become perhaps the biggest challenge for the Ukrainian energy system since the beginning of the war. Truly heroic are the efforts of power engineers working around the clock in extremely difficult conditions to restore access to critical resources – heat, light, and communication – for millions of people and businesses. Read the key information about the scale of damage, the speed of infrastructure restoration, and the steps taken in October to strengthen Ukraine’s energy independence in the updates below from the EBA Energy Committee:<\/span><\/p>\n Electricity<\/span><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n In October, the enemy repeatedly attacked important power supply facilities. Over the month, DTEK power engineers together with Ukrenergo restored electricity supply to more than 1.3 million families in 1607 settlements in Kyiv, Odesa, Donetsk, and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts and the city of Kyiv. Due to frequent shelling, it was necessary to restore the electricity supply several times during the month in the same location.<\/span><\/p>\n Statistics for individual regions: in October, electricity was restored to 477 thousand customers in Kyiv and 255 thousand customers in the Kyiv region, 326 thousand households in the Dnipropetrovsk oblast, 263 thousand households in the Donetsk region, and 18 thousand households in Odesa region.<\/span><\/p>\n Despite the efforts of power engineers to restore the damaged infrastructure, 84 settlements in the Donetsk region remain without electricity. Power engineers will definitely restore electricity to all residents of the region as soon as they receive permission from the military to carry out the work.<\/span><\/p>\n Due to significant damage to the power grid, stabilization power outages continue in some regions of the country by order of NPC Ukrenergo in order to avoid large-scale accidents. They will continue until all affected elements of the power system are repaired.<\/span><\/p>\n Power engineers emphasized that now every citizen can help the country to keep the energy front. This can be done through reasonable consumption of electricity \u2013 one needs to turn on energy-intensive appliances one by one, to minimize energy consumption during peak hours in the morning from 6.00 to 11.00 and in the evening from 17.00 to 23.00. At the same time, business representatives can limit the use of outdoor lighting on the facades of offices, restaurants, shopping centers, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n Oil and gas sector<\/span><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n The gas supply company\u00a0<\/span>Naftogaz of Ukraine<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0continues to work steadily for more than 12 million of its customers. All digital services of the company are always fully available. In October, the contact center handled almost 630 thousand calls.<\/span><\/p>\n JSC Ukrgasvydobuvannya<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0has restored the operation of several infrastructure facilities in the de-occupied territory of Ukraine and is preparing to launch others. The result will be the additional production of about 500 thousand cubic meters of natural gas per day. The company has also launched a new well in the Kharkiv region with a flow rate of over 140 thousand cubic meters of gas per day. Besides, Ukrgasvydobuvannya signed a memorandum of understanding on potential cooperation in the geological exploration and production of hydrocarbons in the western part of Ukraine with the Czech MND. The company continues to produce gas at all its facilities, except for those located near the contact line.<\/span><\/p>\n In October,\u00a0<\/span>Gas Supply Company Naftogaz Trading LLC<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0purchased 7.8 million cubic meters of gas in the open bidding on the domestic market.<\/span><\/p>\n Since the beginning of October, the volumes of gas stored by non-resident companies in the UGS facilities of\u00a0<\/span>JSC Ukrtransgaz\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>in the Customs Warehouse Mode have increased more than 7 times. Thus, non-residents return their gas for storage in Ukraine.<\/span><\/p>\n The heating networks of\u00a0<\/span>Novorozdilsk and Novoyavorivsk CHPs<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0are ready to work in the autumn-winter period. The heating season in the cities will start when the average daily temperature is +8 degrees or below for three days, as well as after the relevant order of the mayors. After the terrorist missile attacks on the energy infrastructure in all regions of Ukraine, there were difficulties with the electricity supply. Employees of the Novorozdilsk and Novoyavoriv power grids are working in extremely difficult conditions to prevent emergency power outages.<\/span><\/p>\n In October,\u00a0<\/span>JSC Donetskoblgaz\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>resumed supplies in certain regions of Donetsk Oblast. This was done thanks to the joint efforts of the Ukrainian military and the Ukrainian GTS Operator. Employees of the company are preparing for the heating season, continue to repair networks, and distribute gas to critical infrastructure companies, boiler houses, hospitals, and households. Currently, gas is distributed to almost 30 thousand subscribers, mainly private houses and boiler houses.<\/span><\/p>\n JSC “Ukrtransnafta”, JSC “Ukrspetstransgaz” and OJSC “Kirovogradgaz”<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0continue to operate in the normal mode under martial law.<\/span><\/p>\n Natural gas market<\/span><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n After the de-occupation of Kupiansk, the specialists of JSC Kharkivgaz restored gas supply to 95% of families living in private houses and to more than 50% of consumers in the apartment sector. Every day natural gas is returned to about three thousand households. Totally, in October, gas supply restoration works were carried out in eight towns and villages of Izium, Kharkiv, Bohodukhiv, and Kupiansk districts of the Kharkiv region affected by the aggressor.<\/span><\/p>\n Besides, in a number of regions, RGC took measures to develop the biomethane market. Thus, representatives of the Regional Gas Company together with the Rivne Regional State Administration met with the agricultural business to discuss the possibilities of biomethane production at agricultural and food enterprises. The company offered its expertise in the implementation of such projects in the Rivne region.<\/span><\/p>\n Also in the Chernihiv region, the first Ukraine biomethane plant “Gals Agro” will be connected to the gas network. Gas workers have already started the construction of the pipeline, the work is planned to be completed by the end of the year.
