On June 29, during a meeting “Connecting Europe Days 2022” of the European Commission Transport Directorate, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine and the European Commissioner for Transport signed a so-called “transport visa-free regime” \u2013 a Special Agreement on Transport Liberalization between Ukraine and the European Union.<\/p>\n
The text of the Agreement provides for the performance of bilateral and transit traffic by Ukrainian carriers without permits for international road transport. In other words, the issues and problems that have often arisen for Ukrainian carriers due to lack of permits will disappear because, after the signing of the Special Agreement, they will not be needed at all.<\/p>\n
Given that most Ukrainian ports are blocked and the transport infrastructure is severely damaged, such a decision is likely to facilitate international trade and intensify Ukrainian exports. Besides, it will improve and speed up logistics between Ukraine and the EU.<\/p>\n
The agreement enters into force upon ratification and will be valid until June 30, 2023, with the possibility of extension. The European Business Association sincerely welcomes this decision, as the community was one of the first in Ukraine to start talking about the need to liberalize road transport a few years ago.<\/p>\n
