Business associations should act as mediators in creating a barrier-free business environment. The EBA Representatives spoke about this today at the opening ceremony of the Inclusive Diversity Week at Danone Ukraine. With the participation of First Lady Olena Zelenska, members of the Business Without Barriers community shared the most vivid achievements in the implementation of barrier-free practices in their companies.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Thus, the European Business Association has for many years been a platform for communication and exchange of experiences between different companies, as well as their business interest representation. And over the last year, the EBA Barrier-free direction has been taken to a new level. At the beginning of the year, the EBA presented its Guide to Reforms 2030 which is a comprehensive strategic document with the business vision for the next-decade reforms which for the first time included a section on equal opportunities and diversity policy. Another important step was the introduction of a pilot workshop series “Diversity and Inclusion”, which we conduct together with partner NGOs specializing in such topics as combating workplace violence and sexual harassment, the introduction of family-friendly practices, women’s leadership, protection and employment of LGBT workers and people with disabilities, etc.<\/p>\n\t

\n\t\t\t\tThe accessibility is not yet among the top business priorities as shown by the Sustainable Development Index. That survey was conducted for the first time among EBA member companies this year. Only 41% of companies admitted to having social and professional integration programs for people with disabilities. The results for the inclusion of people with disabilities are even lower. Therefore, we see our mission not only to respond to the existing demands of responsible business but also to take a proactive position and shape the agenda for business that include accessibility. The two main ways are to help companies unite in communities and share successful cases, as well as to provide conditions for dialogue between the state and business, which should result in at least the achievement of the economic barrier-free environment at the national level.\n\t\t\t<\/blockquote>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<\/div>\n\n

For reference: The Barrier-Free Community was established in November 2020 at the initiative of First Lady Olena Zelenska. It currently unites more than 20 Ukrainian and foreign companies and aims to implement and foster barrier-free principles in business.<\/p>\n
