IT company SoftServe developed a web resource to promote lessons in Ukrainian language among teachers of after-school activities. The platform was created in cooperation with NGO \u201cTeach in Ukrainian”.<\/p>\n
It helps teachers to learn about the initiative \u201cTeach in Ukrainian” and its activities such as language marathons and challenges in which participants practice Ukrainian and professional vocabulary. In the past year, mor\u0435 than 2000 teachers have taken part in challenges and another 1000 started training this November.<\/p>\n
The website also offers a list of Ukrainian-speaking clubs and groups such as dance studios, music schools, sports clubs. As for now, there are more than 400 sites in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipro. The list keeps growing and will include other cities.<\/p>\n
\u201cTeachers are often afraid of switching to Ukrainian because they don\u2019t feel confident. We are very happy that such a great initiative \u201cTeach in Ukrainian\u201d can help them while the students of our IT Academy and SoftServe specialists have technically supported the project and developed a website for it. Ukrainians already can find information about Ukrainian-speaking clubs, join language marathons and challenges”,<\/em> says Senior Mentor of SoftServe IT Academy Igor Kohut.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cAccording to our information, in 2020 only 16% after-school classes were taught exclusively in Ukrainian in Kyiv and 8% in Kharkiv. Many people want to teach in Ukrainian, but they are afraid to move on because they lack support from colleagues. That is why we launched NGO \u201cTeach in Ukrainian\u201d and we\u2019re glad that conscious business and the state, particularly the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the State Language Protection Commissioner, supported us\u201d, <\/em>says the NGO\u2019s co-founder, Natalka Fedechko.<\/strong><\/p>\n More functions for the website are coming. Now volunteers are working on the news section, improving configurations and functionality for marathons and challenges.<\/p>\n Digital solutions for \u201cTeach in Ukrainian\u201d are a part of the IT Academy training project that has been developed by students and SoftServe specialists within Open Tech. It is a platform that involves the company\u2019s experts in voluntary work for charity projects. No matter where you are in your journey.<\/p>\n About NGO \u201cTeach in Ukrainian\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n The initiative <\/a>involves active citizens, representatives of different NGOs (the Ukrainian Humanitarian Platform, Language Policy Portal, \u201cLanguage unites\u201d community), parents, volunteers united by the idea of popularization of the Ukrainian language.<\/p>\n In the 2020\/2021 school year, the initiative launched two 21-days challenges “Teach in Ukrainian<\/a>” with more than 1500 teachers and trainers from Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipro. The main outcome was a family festival “Movosphera<\/a>” with the presentation of Ukrainian-language classes: dancing, singing, theater, sport, handicraft, blogging, video. During the festival, a massive dance flashmob between Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, and Kyiv took place online. Its purpose was to popularize the Ukrainian language.<\/p>\n For the 30th anniversary of Ukrainian independence, the initiative held Language Marathon. It helped 5000 Ukrainians to switch to the Ukrainian language. The initiative is supported by Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, the Ministry of Youth and Sport, the State Language Protection Commissioner, and a list of organizations (SoftServe<\/a>, educational online platform EdEra, Univer PL, Revenue Grid, E-Mov<\/a>a, Language Policy Portal<\/a> and radio station Kraina FM).<\/p>\n You can check our video for teachers here:<\/p>\n
