At the same time, the quality of power supply is not of the highest level. After all, the System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) in Ukraine is 700 minutes per year. This suggests that the enterprise can be disconnected from the power supply at least for 3 hours during working hours and repeatedly throughout the year.<\/p>\n
Such an increase in the cost of electricity and the possibility of prolonged downtime paves the way for considering alternative sources of electricity, such as solar power plants (SPP).<\/p>\n
For its part, the solar power plant market is showing positive news: the payback period of a rooftop solar power plant will be less than 5 years, IRR is at least 15%, and the equipment is pledged by banks. Banks are also ready to consider financing the SPP construction project as modernization of fixed assets and offer a program at low lending rates.<\/p>\n
According to research data from global consulting firms, the main competitive advantages will be obtained by the companies, which reduce electricity consumption, and in the long term, this can only be achieved by replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy sources (RES). Due to technological progress and a decrease in the cost of equipment, the cost of generation will decrease only for electricity from RES. At the same time the share of renewable energy sources in global generation will reach 50% by 2035.<\/p>\n
In order to compare the cost of electricity generated from various sources, one can use the indicators of the LCOE (Levelized Cost of Energy of the Present Value of Electricity), and according to recent studies, this cost for renewable energy from solar panels has fell and reached a level below USD 36.00 per 1 MWt of generated energy, and this is almost UAH 1,000 per 1 MWt.<\/p>\n
In addition to the fact that economic indices point at the effectiveness of the application of solutions using solar panels in general, there are also technological advantages, which show that the installation of solar stations is easily scalable and allows you to obtain the necessary power directly at the point of use.<\/p>\n
But not only competitiveness is on the front burner today; the impact of production on the environment is also on the agenda. All political leaders, who follow current trends, see that the problem of global warming is also becoming one of the main factors in the regulation of industrial development of societies. Today, governments in many countries are strengthening the role of their environmental agencies and legislation in controlling the quality of production of goods. Particularly, the EU is adopting the European Green Deal Initiative, which aims to achieve climate neutrality targets by 2050.<\/p>\n
The main goals of the Deal are achievement of climate neutrality by Europe, improving the well-being of citizens, protecting biological diversity, and \u201cgreening\u201d the economies.<\/p>\n
This approach to legislative regulation will affect all areas of economic activity and establish new requirements for its implementation. In particular, it will concern the following:<\/p>\n
\n- \u201cClean\u201d energy. It is planned to switch to energy efficient methods of electricity consumption, the development of RES, the availability of power to ensure the operation of a fully integrated interconnected and digitalized electricity market.<\/li>\n
- Development of a sustainable industry. One of the main goals is the introduction of an Industrial policy based on the principles of the Circular economy. The main line of this Policy will be the modernization of industry, the establishment of a market for climate-neutral goods, which will contribute to decarbonization and modernization of the most energy-intensive sectors of the economy, in particular, the production of steel and cement. This Policy will focus on reducing waste in industries such as textile, construction, automotive, electronics, charging cells and plastics as well.<\/li>\n
- Also, attention will be paid to such areas as: increasing the production of agricultural organic products, reducing the application of pesticides and fertilizers, supporting the biodiversity of natural resources and reducing the level of environmental pollution.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
Therefore, given such an integrated approach to stimulating an efficient attitude to the use of resources and the introduction of mechanisms for additional tariff duties on products having an increased content of CO2<\/sub> in the production chain through CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism), planning to reduce CO2<\/sub> is already an urgent need today.
