Emission reduction targets must be not only ambitious but also realistic. Given the general decline in economic activities and the industry, and in the absence of a state strategy for industrial development in Ukraine, it is necessary to formulate a clear vision of industrial development in the coming years and ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for each industry. Therefore, at the meeting, the Government and business agreed to join forces to develop policies and discuss targets that comply with the NDC, for energy, industry, transport, agriculture, land use, and waste.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The business drew attention to important factors that are currently lacked in the emission reduction scenarios, but which should be taken into account for the preparation of the second NDC. First is to include additional parameters in the scenario apart from investments and emission reductions, such as the cost of electricity in the wholesale market, the cost of electricity for the final consumer, the amount of public debt and the balance of payments. Besides, it is necessary to revise the estimated forecasts for 2020, which is the basis for modeling. Given that the scenarios were developed in 2019, some forecasts need to be updated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Furthermore, the EBA representatives discussed with the Ministry of Ecology the assumptions and data used in modeling scenarios of greenhouse gas emissions; sources, volume and direction of investments needed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions; the structural specifics of the national economy and the vulnerability of low-income households when implementing the decarbonization policy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The business supports the Government\u2019s aspiration to follow the global trends of the green economy and hopes for further fruitful cooperation in this direction!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This was discussed on Monday, June 22, during a meeting between the members of the EBA Industrial Ecology and Sustainable Development Committee and Iryna Stavchuk, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, and experts from the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Ecology and EBRD.
