A new standard for determining the quality of wheat will begin to operate on June 10, 2019. The corresponding decision was assigned by order of the Ukrainian Research and Training Center of Standardization, Certification and Quality No. 133<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The new standard was developed by Technical Committee 170 on “Grain Crops and Products for their Processing”, which includes representatives of the European Business Association’s Grain and Oilseeds Committee.<\/p>\n

The new standard for wheat reduces the number of classes and changes the methodology for determining the quality of grain. For example, if the old standard from 2010 foresees a division into six classes, the new standard will have only four classes: three classes of food wheat and one class for non-food, which will have a positive impact for storage and harvesting of grain.<\/p>\n

Recall, last week an order was issued by the Ukrainian Research and Training Center of Standardization, Certification and Quality, which adopts and introduces a new standard from August 1, 2019 to replace the standard from 2010. As the start of wheat harvesting in the southern regions began already in June, this situation caused concern. The business community has asked to postpone the deadline for the introduction of a new standard.<\/p>\n

The European Business Association thanks the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and the Ukrainian Research and Training Center of Standardization, Certification and Quality for promptly resolving the issue of postponing the deadline for the entry into force of the new national wheat standard.<\/p>\n
