The aim of the meeting was to acquaint business representatives with the internal activities of the ACU and discuss legislation on protection of economic competition and its compliance. Representatives of the ACU Central Office management and Heads of territorial departments in Odesa, Mykolayiv and Kherson regions also took part in the meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n According to the ACU leadership, the Committee\u2019s activity focusses on increasing the quality of cases and not their quantity. In 2016, the economic effect of the ACU\u2019s activity increased 150% and amounted to 1.4 billion UAH. Programs of technical assistance with the US Federal Trade Commission and \u201cTwinning\u201d with German and Lithuanian competition offices got underway. Recently, the ACU expanded its functions in the sphere of public procurement, and this year monitoring and inspection of state assistance will become a new important task of the department.<\/span><\/p>\n As of today, there are 25 ACU territorial branches in the country. Each branch has its own IT system and is not integrated with the Central Office in terms of document circulation or work processes. In the near future, administrative reform of the ACU might be undertaken. This will make the work of territorial offices more transparent, introduce competition advocacy, increase the efficiency of investigating cases, minimize the possibility of unwarranted pressure on business and boost the adoption of committed decisions.<\/span><\/p>\n EBA member companies had an opportunity to discuss current challenges in the region.
