The European Business Association (the EBA) supported adoption of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Order On Approval of Requirements for Cocoa and Chocolate Products (the Order) including the EBA proposals. The current legal act that governs requirements for cocoa and chocolate products is the national standard of Ukraine Chocolate. General technical conditions (ISO 3924: 2014), which came into force on July 1, 2015. Unfortunately, not all issues on the labeling of cocoa and chocolate products are regulated by ISO 3924: 2014, so the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine has developed the Order On Approval of Requirements for Cocoa and Chocolate Products. The requirements regulate the labeling of products made of cocoa and chocolate that will allow to properly inform consumers of all the ingredients of the product. The Order will unify requirements for chocolate products, expand and harmonise the classification of pastries and fill gaps in national regulations to facilitate development of confectionery exports to the European market by fulfilling the EU legislation and Codex Alimentarius international standards. EBA representatives, namely the EBA Food Committee actively participated in the development of the Order by submitting their suggestions and comments. The Association welcomes adoption of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Order On Approval of Requirements for Cocoa and Chocolate Products, which is consistent with the norms of European law.
