On 27 February 2014 the Ukrainian Parliament revoked the Draft Law “On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On State Market Surveillance and Control of Non-food Products” as for improvement of the system” No3852 dated 8 January 2014 (hereinafter – the Draft Law). This Draft Law envisaged business entities to be responsible for the creation of obstacles in course of checks and the performance of duties by state inspectors. Background:EBA member-companies pointed out that the suggestion prescribed by the Draft Law to extend responsibilities of the state inspectors with regard to business entities’ liability would lead to abuses from the side of inspectors and was in general harmful for the business climate in our country. When the Draft Law was initiated by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, we addressed our concerns regarding its provision. However, the Draft Law was submitted to the Parliament on behalf of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. During numerous appeals and official statements the Association expressed its position concerning the necessity for the balanced responsibility of both inspectors and business entities, and as a result we suggested the Parliament to revoke this Draft Law. We would like to thank all EBA members who supported and contributed to our efforts focused on solving this issue. At the same time the EBA will continue our lobbying activity aimed to create a business friendly environment in Ukraine.
