Press conference “Economically viable calculations of fees for private copying and reprography”. Date: 17 September2021. Time: 10:00 11:00. Language: Ukrainian (without translation). Place: Ukrinform. On September 17 at 10:00 the European Business Association and the Kyiv School of Economics will hold a press conference Economically viable calculations of fees for private copying and reprography. Significant technological changes are pushing for a revision of the principles for setting fees for private copying and reprography. Thus, the expansion of Internet access, as well as changes in the preferences and technologies available to the public, have significantly changed the way information is obtained and consumed. Meanwhile, the consumers of online legal content are subjected to a precedent of paying twice for the same cause. Apart from the subscription for streaming services, they have to pay fees on devices used exclusively for online activity. Based on the survey of Gradus Research, the experts from Kyiv School of Economics assessed the compliance of the current fees for imported and manufactured devices in Ukraine with the compensation paid to authors for private copying of their works (audio, video, and printed products) and how fair these indicators are in relation to each other. Besides, the researchers calculated the probable losses of authors and provided recommendations with the consideration of consumers’ opinions. The press conference will take place at Ukrinform (8/16 Bohdan Khmelnytsky str., Kyiv). It will feature a presentation of the results of the study, as well as the survey. Participants: Yurii Sholomytskyi, Head of the Center of Macroeconomic Modeling, Kyiv School of Economics; Yevheniia Blyzniuk, Director and Founder of Gradus Research; Henadii Smorzhevskyi, Head of the Intellectual Property Committee, the Association of Information Technology Enterprises of Ukraine - APITU; Moderator: Viktoriia Kulykova, Head of EBA Regulatory, Consumer Electronics Committees.
