The Team: Driving Force of the Business or Its Greatest Threat? How to Create the Team of A-Players

03/ 06/ 2019
Andrii Pyvovarov. Co-founder of Соль, GoIT, GoITeens, 8allocate, CRMium companies, a certified coach of the Scaling Up concept (the only one in CIS, the youngest in the world), created “Miracle Morning” community I am going to start the article with advice without which you will not become successful and happy entrepreneurs. It sounds like this: Only with the outstanding team can you earn big money, as well as achieve the business to work without you! All the businesses that I created or co-founded, launched due to the outstanding teams that I formed or motivated, as well as the major failures, unlaunched projects happened because of the mistakes in recruitment and demotivation. The main competence of the owner is where to find, how to select, and how to motivate key people. If most employees in your company work from call to call, then company will not achieve greatness. Lets classify all types of players: ✔️ A-players - combine performance with values. Mini-owners, who are full of ideas and can predict the owners thoughts. They do not need to be asked: they themselves will come up with an idea, suggest it and implement. ✔️ B+ players – they are enthusiastic and have suitable values, so far, they are not productive. ✔️ B-players - productive, but not enthusiastic. ✔️ C-players - toxic players. It should be noted that C-players in different companies will have different levels. For example, journalist C from Forbes will still be of higher knowledge and competence levels than the journalist C from a regional newspaper. Without understanding the context of a company, hanging a label is incorrect. Getting the attention of A-players from all levels and employing them is one of the most important tasks along with choosing the right customers. For its successful execution, it is necessary to actively use marketing techniques and methods of topgrading (Scaling Up - Verne Harnish) during interviews and selections of candidates. If you want to form the team of A-players, then you must first form the team of A-players managers, because they will be implementors and will not approve the wrong people. Remember, there are no outstanding employees on job sites - they just have no time to sit there and re-write a resume. There is the real hunting for high-class specialists. Every owner of the business aspires to find them. While creating the team, do not proceed with half-measures. Hire only A-players, because C-player will never become A. The wrong person is the loss of 2-17 yearly salaries. I advise executives to look for savants, people who are incredibly talented in one particular area, and perhaps are not competent in any other area. A leader has to find and attract the outstanding people in one’s team. Here are some guidelines for creating the team: ✔️ Hire less, pay more. ✔️ People and relationships are much more important than processes and tools. ✔️ Right people do the right things on the right places. ✔️ Better no one than anyone. ✔️ Recruiting is the game of numbers and the collection of facts from the past. ✔️ 80% of the time should be given to A-players. ✔️ Do not demotivate, eliminate obstacles. ✔️ Help people use their strengths. The sooner you find outstanding players in your team, the sooner your business will develop. I wish everyone to find A-players and create their dream team! I am going to start the article with advice without which you will not become successful and happy entrepreneurs.

Let’s classify all types of players:

✔️ A-players – combine performance with values. “Mini-owners”, who are full of ideas and can predict the owner’s thoughts. They do not need to be asked: they themselves will come up with an idea, suggest it and implement.

✔️ B+ players – they are enthusiastic and have suitable values, so far, they are not productive.

✔️ B-players – productive, but not enthusiastic.

✔️ C-players – toxic players.

For its successful execution, it is necessary to actively use marketing techniques and methods of topgrading (Scaling Up – Verne Harnish) during interviews and selections of candidates.

If you want to form the team of A-players, then you must first form the team of A-players managers, because they will be implementors and will not approve the wrong people.

Remember, there are no outstanding employees on job sites – they just have no time to sit there and re-write a resume. There is the real “hunting” for high-class specialists.

Here are some guidelines for creating the team:

✔️ Hire less, pay more.
