ABB launches high density AXR 5000 and 5800 rib cooled motors, designed to last longer
ABB introduces the AXR 5000 and 5800 high density motors to offer customers a more compact, energy-efficient choice. Designed to last longer, even in demanding environments, the new motorspromise a lower total cost of ownership.
ABB has launchedtheAXR 5000 and 5800 rib cooled motors which offer more horse power per pound than conventional motors, making them smaller and lighter but just as powerful. These engineered motors meet NEMA mounting dimensions and can be used in a wide range of industries, including water, power, mining and pulp and paper.
These highpower density motors offer customers the output they require but with a frame size smaller, helping to save space and enabling more compact installations. Higher density also leads to improved energy efficiency and because the motors are optimized for variable speed drive use, even higher savings can be achieved.
The AXR 5000 and 5800 feature an improved cooling system that helps these motors last longer. Better cooling reduces the wear and tear on insulation and bearings caused by high temperatures. Internal air circulation has been increased and on the outside the cooling ribs maximize the cooling surface area. Even the end shields have been designed for optimized cooling.
“These motors, manufactured in the US, combine the technology of ABB large AC IEC motors and Baldor’s Reliance large AC NEMA motors,” says Charles Blankenship, LAC Product Manager, ABB. “The AXR 5000 and 5800 provide a unique combination of smaller size, high power density and high reliability to deliver a lower cost of ownership for customers.”
The AXR 5000 and 5800 are easy to install, and save customers time and money when it comes to general maintenance. For example, the terminal and auxiliary box can be mounted in several positions, minimizing the need for spare motors and allowing for quick replacements. The fan cover is also easy to detachif access is needed for servicing.
