20 October 2008. The Partners of the law company Arzinger & Partners (Ukraine) Timur Bondaryev, Wolfram Rehbock and Anna Pogrebna participated in the largest International Exhibition of commercial real estate in Europe EXPO Real 2008 and can declare that Ukraine still remains attractive for foreign investors.
At the conference the senior partner of Arzinger & Partners Timur Bondaryev took part in the panel discussion ‘Real Estate Investors Guide: Ukraine” dedicated to the consulting issues of potential investors in the commercial real estate of Ukraine.
“Despite the crisis, Ukraine is still interesting for investors. This is partially caused by the fact that developed markets are oversaturated and significant developers are looking for alternatives in developing markets. The Ukrainian real estate market is rather young and there are huge opportunities for its further development, in particular, that of substatial projects that are certain to attract western investors”, Timur Bondaryev said. “Although many real estate projects are suspended and new ones are not being launched because of the crisis that still has a positive meaning for the market. This situation can act as a catalyst to accelerate a range of transactions leading to the re-allotment of shares in favour of stronger players in the marketplace. The corresponding trends are already planned in the world markets, in particular the retail sphere, and Ukraine will not be an exception”, he outlined.
Partner Anna Pogrebna who was a moderator in the session “Tourist development in Germany, Ukraine and the Baltic countries” during the conference «European Hotel Development» in the frames of EXPO Real, called the legislative barriers for investments as the main preventing factor for development of the Ukrainian hotel business.
“Today, and especially facing Euro 2012, the hotel business in Ukraine, quintessentially, depends on the state’s readiness to provide a favourable climate for investing, to lift bureaucratic barriers and to guarantee the protection of investments. Ukrainian practicing lawyers are ready to cooperate with legislators to bring the legislative system (allotment of land, project documentation, certification etc.) in compliance with the strategy aimed at promoting investment attractiveness and tourism. Ukraine’s main competitors in attracting investments are the Czech Republic, Poland and the Baltic countries, they are making real progress in this direction”, Anna Pogrebna said.
The main subject of discussions at the real estate fair was, of course, the international financial crisis, however, it did not lower the interest in the fair, the quantity of its participants was historically high — more than 17,500 companies and 24,500 visitors.
The program of conferences in the frame of EXPO REAL comprised of more than 100 events with the participation of 400 well-known experts giving reports on most topical issues: the development of the real estate market, the instability of the international financial markets in connection with the credit crisis in the USA, on the implementation of REIT trusts in Germany, and also on the developing markets of India and Turkey..
