July 3, Kiev, Botanic garden. Today Philips co-signed the Go Green declaration, initiated by the United Nations. The Go Green declaration aims to increase environmental consciousness. “Philips has a long-standing commitment to providing solutions that improve people’s lives and are environmentally sound. The most obvious example is in Lighting, where we are the industry leader in energy-efficient lighting.” says Philips Ukraine CEO Maarten Durville.
Philips makes it easier to be green
Philips does more than offering energy efficient lighting solutions. In all products, it tries to care for the environment and set clear goals to improve. “Our global EcoVision Program aims to double our investment in green innovations to EUR 1 billion in the next five years and increase the energy efficiency of our operations by 25%. We are aiming for our Green Products to generate 30% of total revenues by 2012, doubling our 2006 result. A good example of a Green product is our 42 inch TV , that uses 21% less energy and 29% less packaging compared to the average of its closest commercial competitors.”, - Mr. Durville states.
Philips’ conviction is that sustainability offers a world of opportunities to deliver value to individuals and communities around the globe, as well as to the company. It firmly believes that socially and environmentally sound behaviour contributes to sustained profitable growth and value creation.
Recognized as Sustainability leader
Philips’ efforts pay of. It is proud to have achieved the position of DJSI (Dow Jones Sustainability Index) supersector leader. Furthermore, for the third year running, Philips ranks among the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World, announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. And it was selected (again) as one of the 20 companies on the 2007 List of the Worlds Top Sustainable Stocks
“Philips is sure that, by uniting the efforts of community, business and government, we can improve environmental performance in Energy efficiency, Water conservation, Pollution reduction and Effective waste management”, - says Mr. Durville.
