International Tax Review has announced European Tax Awards winners. KYIV, 24 June 2008 – Ernst & Young was named Ukrainian Tax Firm of the Year by the authoritative international magazine International Tax Review (UK). In 2008, for the first time Ukraine was on the list of European countries in which the tax firms contested. This makes the award to Ernst & Young especially significant, as it was the first tax and legal firm to win the award for operations in Ukraine.
National firm awards were given to the firm with the best track record between February 2007 and February 2008 for giving local advice on the most innovative international tax transactions, important litigation and transfer pricing advice from the country in question. This included the tax work done on corporate and financing deals.
Trevor Link, Tax & Legal Practice Leader with Ernst & Young Ukraine, said, “Ukraine has appeared on the map of International Tax Review awards. This is already a positive development for the Ukrainian tax community, as we get evaluated against other countries. Second, the award that Ernst & Young received recognizes achievements in our projects over last year. It is an honor for us to be singled out among the strong team of our peers.”
International Tax Review announced the winners in pan-European and in 24 European jurisdictions at an awards dinner at the Renaissance Chancery Court hotel in London. Volodymyr Kotenko, Tax & Legal Partner with Ernst & Young LLC (Ukraine) represented the Ukrainian practice at the ceremony and received the award for Ukraine.
Apart from the Ukrainian Tax & Legal practice, Ernst & Young’s practices from Finland and Poland were also named national Tax Firms of the Year in their respective countries. Ernst & Young’s practices in Sweden and Hungary were named Transfer Pricing firms of the year.
The winners were chosen by the editorial staff of International Tax Review and a panel from the Tax Executives Institutes European Chapter. To decide the winners, International Tax Review’s team of journalists undertook detailed research from a variety of sources. Submissions from firms were a vital part of this research. The magazine’s editorial staff also consulted a large number of tax advisers, private-practice lawyers, tax executives and in-house counsel to gain their perspective on the ground-breaking work of the February 2007 to February 2008 period.
