Health Care

07/ 02/ 2017
Thanks to the European Business Association’s (Association) active involvement and efforts of the leadership of the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drug Control (SMDC) we are glad to inform that the issue of SMDC’s possible loss of membership in the International Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/S) is now irrelevant. Owing to the SMDC’s full-fledged membership in PIC/S from 1 January 2011, which was a significant achievement of this country in the pharmaceutical sector, inspectors received additional instruments to support their knowledge and exchange experience in the sphere of drugs quality control with experts from other countries. The scope of advantages of the PIC/S membership also includes more efficient information exchange between the SMDC and other PIC/S member authorities, new knowledge and better understanding of other member authorities’ peculiarities when performing their inspection functions. In 2016 the membership of the SMDC in PIC/S as being the successor of the State Administration of Ukraine on Medicinal Products (State Administration) was at risk due to the reorganization of the latter. The major obstacle on the way of further membership in PIC/S referred to the annual membership fee payment, as the allocated 2016 budget funds did not include the necessary expenses. In order to resolve the problematic issue the Association timely and duly appealed to the SMDC, Ministry of Health of Ukraine and Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman. Currently, we inform that by the efforts of the SMDC’ management, this issue that is of the national significance, was resolved. The relevant information was published on the SMDC web-page. The European Business Association supports this step and is hopeful that the 2017 SMDS’s membership in PIC/S in 2017 will be timely and duly planned.
